End Citizens United (ECU) // Let America Vote (LAV) Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that Alabama’s racial gerrymandering likely violated the Voting Rights Act:
“By rejecting Alabama’s discriminatory map, the Court has made a rare decision to protect Black and minority voters who, under the current lines, have seen their political power significantly diluted. Today’s ruling underscores the importance of the Voting Rights Act, a bulwark against racist voting practices.
“This Court has repeatedly shown its hostility towards voting rights and fair maps. We cannot let this one ruling overshadow the Court’s shameful history. Congress must implement national standards that protect the freedom to vote for all so that Black and minority voters’ ability to participate in our democracy doesn’t hinge on this extremist Court.”
