Ahead of Koch-backed Chevron Case on SCOTUS Docket, ECU // LAV Condemns Justice Thomas’ Conduct and Calls for Urgent Reform

ECU // LAV to host press call with leading lawmakers, legal and ethical experts on Tuesday, September 26 to preview upcoming Supreme Court term and call for reforms

End Citizens United // Let America Vote (ECU // LAV) Action Fund President Tiffany Muller issued the following statement in response to the latest bombshell ProPublica report on Justice Clarence Thomas:

“Justice Thomas’ unethical behavior and corruption knows no bounds. The latest ProPublica report paints a clear picture of quid pro quo with the Koch network––facilitated by Leonard Leo––which has spent years and millions of dollars to overturn precedent in Chevron v. NRDC. Thomas’ flip-flop on Chevron is not based on a legal evolution; rather, he’s been showered with gifts and money from the Koch network, effectively buying his allegiance. This is just the latest evidence that the Supreme Court has been hijacked by the right-wing Big Money machine, and it’s the American people who are paying the price.

“The American people deserve a Supreme Court that is immune to pressure from billionaire political donors. Congress cannot continue to turn a blind eye to this crisis. This disturbing revelation reinforces the urgent need for comprehensive ethics reform, and it’s high time for Justice Thomas to resign voluntarily, or for Congress to take immediate steps to impeach him to uphold the integrity of the court.”

On Tuesday, September 26, End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund will host a press call with U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Judge Nancy Gertner (Ret.), ethics expert Richard W. Painter, and United for Democracy campaign director Stasha Rhodes to preview the upcoming Supreme Court term and highlight the need for stronger ethical standards to rein in corruption and limit special interest influence.
