End Citizens United // Let America Vote Endorses New Supreme Court Ethics Legislation

End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement in support of the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act, which was introduced in the Senate last week and passed the House Judiciary Committee last Wednesday.

“Recent events make clear the need for legislation to ensure Supreme Court justices are accountable only to the rule of law, not dark money special interests or lobbyists that spend millions to install their preferred Justices and sway decisions. We applaud Senator Whitehouse, Senator Blumenthal, and Representative Hank Johnson for their important legislation to restore Americans’s faith in the Court by adding much needed ethics rules and transparency.”

The Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act–led by Representative Hank Johnson and Senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Richard Blumenthal–would require the Supreme Court to adopt a code of ethics, strengthen recusal rules, add much needed transparency for Justice’s financial holdings, and shine a light on the lobbyists and dark money interests trying to influence the Court.
