End Citizens United // Let America Vote Endorses Legislation to Require Dedicated Federal Election Funding

End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement in support of the Sustaining Our Democracy Act, legislation introduced Wednesday that would provide a steady stream of funding to support administering elections and expanding voting access:

“Local election officials are at the frontlines of our democracy and we need to ensure they have the resources they need to safely and securely administer our elections, while supporting innovative ways to expand ballot access and voter participation. The Sustaining Our Democracy Act is important legislation that would give states and localities much-needed resources to protect the freedom to vote for all. We applaud Senators Klobuchar, Warren, and Senate Democrats for their continued commitment to strengthening our democracy.”

The Sustaining Our Democracy Act would provide mandatory funding to states and localities to support innovation and improve efficiency in election administration, recruit and train nonpartisan election workers, protect election officials from threats against them, and increase voting access in underserved communities. Both states and localities can apply for the funding, which cannot be used in a way that diminishes ballot access.

Original cosponsors include Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Tina Smith (D-MN), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Alex Padilla (D-CA), Angus King (I-ME), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Bernie Sanders (D-VT), and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT).
